Saline implants carry no risk of silicone leakage. However, the silicone will usually remain whole inside the implant even if the outer shell becomes damaged. Still, many people choose saline because they are concerned about the possible issues that could occur with a rare silicone leak. Silicone implants usually require that the individual receiving them be at least 22 years old while someone 18 years or older can receive saline implants. Silicone is usually a better choice for those who are thin chested, as saline implants may create ripples that can be noticeable in a thinner chest.
In general, patients normally choose silicone because it creates the look and feel of natural breasts and it has been utilized for many years in breast augmentation surgeries. However, silicone is usually a slightly more expensive option. Most surgeries requiring silicone rather than saline cost about $1,000 more in general.
According to the Smart Beauty Guide, the average cost of a breast augmentation with saline implants is a little over $3,500. The cost of a silicone implantation is closer to $4,000. This is considered an average cost for the procedure, although it does not take into account an additional breast lift or other changes.
