Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

Nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, can straighten a crooked nose, correct for breathing abnormalities, or reduce the size of an overly large nose by changing the shape of the bridge, tip, or nostrils. Rhinoplasty improves facial symmetry by creating a nose that is in proportion to the rest of your facial features. Another benefit of the procedure is the self-confidence that comes from knowing that others are looking into your eyes rather than at your nose.

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis under anesthesia. Incisions are made inconspicuously along the nostrils to avoid visible scarring. Cartilage is scraped away to remove a hump, or it is broken and meticulously reset to achieve a reduction in size. The procedure takes about one to two hours, and side effects can include swelling, some bleeding, bruising on the nose and around the eyes, headaches, and stiffness. Daily activities can be resumed in one to two weeks after rhinoplasty, but avoid strenuous activity for three to four weeks.
