Not all procedures are purely for aesthetics. A variety of life events such as childbirth, changes in weight, and even some medical conditions can have an affect on the muscles of the vagina and surrounding tissues. Common issues include the skin and muscles becoming lax, or in some cases, protruding out of the vaginal opening. Genital Cosmetic Surgery, or GCS, is a collection of cosmetic surgery procedures that address these issues, helping women attain comfort and often improved self-esteem.
GCS procedures are performed using advanced techniques to improve both the aesthetics as well as functional issues.
Labiaplasty: Labiaplasty, also called labial reduction, is becoming increasingly popular as a solution for women who feel physical or emotional discomfort due to large or elongated inner labia (labia minora). Many women have concerns about the appearance of their vaginal area. The labia minora (inner vagina labia/lips) can be prominent and extend beyond the outer labia. Labial hypertrophy (large labia minora) may develop during puberty or following childbirth. Sometimes trauma to the labia minora leaves them misshapen. Finally, some women who have undergone a labiaplasty elsewhere in the past may require a revision.
Vaginoplasty: Vaginal rejuvenation is performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under general anesthesia. During the procedure, your surgeon removes excess loose vaginal lining and surrounding tissues, and then tightens lax vaginal muscles. The surgery typically takes 1 to 2 hours to complete.
Candidates for GSC are women who:
