Depending on which filler you use, it can plump thin lips, enhance cheekbones, smooth smile lines, and erase eye circles, resulting in a more relaxed and rejuvenated look. The best filler to correct your wrinkles is the one that targets your specific wrinkles and addresses other aging concerns you might have. Below we’ve described some of today’s most popular dermal fillers to help guide you through the decision-making process.
Juvéderm® is a collection of fillers whose different forms can be used to treat different areas of the face. Popular for filling in the small vertical lines around the lips and the deeper nasolabial folds on the face, depending on the specific filler, it can also be used to plump the lips or add youthful contours to the cheeks. The main ingredient in Juvéderm® is hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in the body and is responsible for giving the skin moisture, volume, and elasticity. As skin ages, it loses more of this hyaluronic acid, resulting in a loss of volume and wrinkles. Juvéderm® injections restore the hyaluronic acid that has been lost, attracting water to the skin and plumping up the area it is injected to. The result is instant smoothing of the skin. Depending on the specific injectable, Juvéderm® may last anywhere from six to 18 months.
Similar to Juvéderm®, Restylane® is a family of filler products that can treat various, problem areas. This product is largely used to smooth wrinkles and folds as well as add volume to the lips. Other products within the family can specifically treat more severe wrinkles and folds, restore volume to the cheeks, add fullness to the backs of the hands, or enhance the lips. Also like Juvéderm®, Restylane® relies on the smoothing effects of hyaluronic acid. Restylane® injections may also stimulate collagen production, so fewer touch-ups and less product may be needed. Results vary depending on the specific product, with a full treatment lasting up to 18 months, cheek results lasting up to a year, and lip results up to six months.
Radiesse® is used to treat moderate-to-severe facial creases and to plump up cheeks and other facial contours. Unlike the other fillers discussed above, Radiesse® is not used in treating the lips. Radiesse® contains tiny microsphere of the mineral calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in a thick gel solution. When injected, Radiesse® will immediately restore lost volume. Over time, the body metabolizes the calcium and absorbs the gel, leaving behind the patient’s own collagen. Results with Radiesse® can last at least a year, but because the filler stimulates natural collagen production, fewer touch-ups may be required to maintain results.
