Different Options for Tummy Tucks

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Jacksonville & Fleming Island, FLFor those who are self-conscious about excess fat and loose, drooping skin around their midsection or weakened abdominal muscles from pregnancy and weight loss, tummy tuck surgery is a popular solution. A procedure designed to eliminate stubborn excess skin and fat, the tummy tuck has many variations that can help those desiring a firmer, leaner figure. Here are the three most common types of tummy tuck procedures performed today.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck is the standard and is ideal for those desiring a flatter abdomen both above and below the navel. During the procedure, a surgeon will make a horizontal incision starting from both hips and meeting around the navel. Afterward, excess tissue and skin is removed before pulling the remaining skin and muscle back down over the abdomen. The surgeon will finish by re-positioning the navel then suturing the incision.

Mini Tummy Tuck

As implied in its title, the mini tummy tuck is less invasive in comparison to the full tummy tuck. Meant for those who are within 10% of their ideal body weight, this technique only affects areas of the abdomen below the navel. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small horizontal incision under the navel to cut out extra skin and tighten abdominal wall muscles before suturing up the incision. Since this technique is less invasive than the standard tummy tuck, re-positioning of the navel is not necessary.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

For those wishing to completely reshape their upper body, a circumferential tummy tuck is the best way to do so. The most invasive of the tummy tuck procedures, this technique not only targets the abdomen, but the hips and lower back as well. To do this, a surgeon creates a horizontal incision that reaches across the lower belly in addition to a vertical incision through the navel. The placement of these incisions will allow the surgeon to remove more excess tissue and tighten more abdominal muscles. The surgeon will then use liposuction to remove fat around the lower back and hips further contour the abdomen. Before the incisions are closed, the belly button is re-positioned. As this is the most invasive of all of the techniques, it provides the most dramatic results, however, patients typically require 3-4 weeks of recovery.
