When it comes to undergoing plastic surgery, we want to know exactly what we’re getting into. We understand that the answers you try to find online tend to be vague, and it almost feels like some of your local plastic surgeons are trying to hide something from you. Today, we want to take this opportunity to be transparent with you about what you can expect from your rhinoplasty, so you can determine whether it’s worth it for you.
If you look up what a rhinoplasty is, the definition will change depending on the type of procedure and the outcome you’re looking for. Three common types of rhinoplasty include:
• Cosmetic rhinoplasty. A cosmetic rhinoplasty solely focuses on the outward appearance of the nose. This surgery is often sought out by patients who have no issues with the functionality of their nose and are just looking to rid bumps in the bridge, a crooked nose, a bulbous tip or more.
• Functional rhinoplasty. A functional rhinoplasty focuses more on the internal structure of the nose, rather than its outward appearance. Those who undergo a functional rhinoplasty often have trouble breathing through the nose prior to surgery. A functional rhinoplasty can be done in conjunction with a cosmetic rhinoplasty for patients who wish to fix both the function and appearance of their nose.
• Liquid rhinoplasty. Liquid rhinoplasty is a non-surgical alternative to a traditional surgical cosmetic rhinoplasty. A liquid nose job consists of using a series of strategically placed dermal filler injections to even out bumps in the bridge of the nose, fill out crooked areas of the nose, and lift the drooping tip of a nose. Liquid rhinoplasty cannot be used in place of surgical functional rhinoplasty.
Many of our patients report that their rhinoplasty was not terribly painful. Your entire surgery is done under general anesthesia, which helps you stay comfortable throughout your procedure. Following your rhinoplasty, it’s normal to experience some headaches and bruising around the eyes, which are easily managed with prescription medication. Our patients come out of surgery telling us their discomfort was much more tolerable than they imagined.
According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of rhinoplasty in 2018 was about $5,350. It’s important to keep in mind that this is an average base cost, and does not take into account other fees that are typically added into the overall cost of your treatment, like anesthesia fees and facility fees. A more realistic idea of what you can expect to pay for your rhinoplasty is closer to $6,000 to $8,000.
Believe it or not, you’ll get the cast off your nose just seven days after your rhinoplasty surgery. That means you’ll be able to go out and about with your regular daily routine just one week following your procedure. It’s important to keep in mind you will be limited to light exercise for the first six weeks following your procedure, like taking long walks or short jogs. It’s important you let your nose heal properly before falling back into your regular workout routine.
