Otoplasty Before & After

What Is the Procedure for an Otoplasty?

All ear surgeries are conducted on an outpatient basis at the Coastal Cosmetic Center’s nationally accredited on-site surgery facility, Coastal Surgery Center, in Jacksonville, FL.

Before surgery, anesthesia is administered to ensure your comfort during the procedure. The choices include local intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon at Coastal Cosmetic Center will recommend the best option for you.

Correction of protruding ears uses surgical techniques to create or increase the antihelical fold (just inside the rim of the ear) and to reduce enlarged conchal cartilage (the largest and deepest concavity of the external ear). Incisions for otoplasty are generally made on the back surface of the ear so that they are hidden from view. When incisions are necessary on the front of the ear, your plastic surgeon will make them within the aesthetic folds to hide their appearance. Internal sutures are used to create and secure the newly shaped cartilage.

What Is the Recovery for an Otoplasty?

Discomfort immediately following otoplasty in Jacksonville is normal and can be controlled with pain medication. There may be an itchy feeling under bandages. This is often a sign that healing is taking place.

It is essential that bandages remain intact and are not removed for any reason. Failure to do so may result in loss of some of the correction and may require a secondary surgery for further reconstruction.
