Otoplasty
(Ear Pinning Surgery)
in Jacksonville, FL
Large or prominent ears can be a source of teasing and low self-esteem for both adults and children. Otoplasty (also called Ear Pinning Surgery) performed at Coastal Cosmetic Center can reshape and resize the ears to be in better proportion to the rest of the face. Plastic Surgeons Timothy E. Fee, MD, and Jordan A. Bilezikian, MD, offer Ear Pinning surgery to appropriate candidates who want a more balanced facial aesthetic with minimal downtime.

What Are the Benefits of an Otoplasty?
Ear Pinning surgery creates a natural shape, while bringing balance and proportion to the ears and face. Correction of even minor deformities can have profound benefits to your appearance and self-esteem.
Who is an Ideal Candidate for an Otoplasty?
If protruding or disfigured ears bother you or your child, you or they may be an ideal candidate for ear pinning surgery. Candidates should be in good health and have ears that have stopped growing. This generally occurs by age five.
What is the Procedure for an Otoplasty?
All ear surgeries are conducted on an outpatient basis at the Coastal Cosmetic Center’s nationally accredited on-site surgery facility, Coastal Surgery Center, in Jacksonville, FL.
Prior to surgery, anesthesia is administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. The choices include local intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. Your Plastic Surgeon at Coastal Cosmetic Center will recommend the best choice for you.
Correction of protruding ears uses surgical techniques to create or increase the antihelical fold (just inside the rim of the ear) and to reduce enlarged conchal cartilage (the largest and deepest concavity of the external ear). Incisions for otoplasty are generally made on the back surface of the ear so that they are hidden from view. When incisions are necessary on the front of the ear, your Plastic Surgeon will make them within the aesthetic folds to hide their appearance. Internal sutures are used to create and secure the newly shaped cartilage in place.
What is the Recovery for an Otoplasty?
Discomfort immediately following ear surgery is normal and can be controlled with pain medication. There may be an itchy feeling under bandages. This is often a sign that healing is taking place. It is essential that bandages remain intact and are not removed for any reason. Failure to do so may result in loss of some of the correction and may require a secondary surgery for further reconstruction.
How Much Does an Otoplasty Cost?
Each Otoplasty (Ear Pinning Surgery) is customized to reach your goals so costs will vary from patient to patient. All applicable costs specific to your surgery will be reviewed during your consultation with your Plastic Surgeon.
