CoolSculpting® vs. SculpSure®

CoolSculpting® in Jacksonville & Fleming Island, FLWith so many body sculpting procedures to choose from, it can be difficult to determine the treatment that will be best for you and your treatment goals. Two of the leading body sculpting treatments, CoolSculpting® and SculpSure®, both offer non-invasive fat reduction to enhance the figure with minimal downtime. In order to choose between these two effective options, you need to consider how the treatments differ and how these differences will impact your treatment experience and your results.

How Do CoolSculpting® and SculpSure® Work?

Both CoolSculpting® and SculpSure® work using the same principle that changing the temperature of fat cells can permanently destroy them, but execute this principle differently. CoolSculpting® freezes fat cells, as the name implies, causing the body to naturally clear away these dead cells. In contrast, SculpSure® employs the use of a laser to heat and kill the fat cells in target areas. As with CoolSculpting®, these cells are naturally cleared from the treated area over time. While the results are similar despite using opposite temperatures, one advantage to SculpSure® is that the head from the laser tends to extend slightly past the immediate treatment area, resulting in a natural transition from treated to untreated areas.

What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated?

Both procedures are FDA approved, however, CoolSculpting® is approved to treat more areas of the body than SculpSure®. CoolSculpting® can be used to treat the abdominal area, flanks, and thighs. It is also the only non-invasive fat reduction procedure approved to be used on the chin, so it is useful in facial contouring as well. SculpSure® is currently only approved to treat the abdomen and flanks.

What Results Can I Expect?

CoolSculpting® and SculpSure® are both designed to treat patients wanting to get rid of small, stubborn areas of fat that won’t go away with just diet and exercise. Neither procedure should be used as a weight loss alternative. CoolSculpting® and SculpSure® are equally successful in providing excellent body contouring results by killing off fat cells, meaning that results are potentially permanent as long as a healthy weight is maintained. Patients that undergo CoolSculpting® can expect to begin seeing results as early as three weeks after treatment, with more dramatic results after two to three months. However, SculpSure® patients tend to see results after six weeks, with optimal results appearing after three months.
